The True Seculars

The latest report on Godhara incident has true secular colors.

I remember, as an undergrad student at KGP, reading about Godhra in Times of India in the midst of our mid-term exams. The newspaper was carried a photograph of the burning rail coaches along with a speculative description of what went on. Among other things, there was one piece describing harassment of a hawker on the Godhra platform and another dealing with the tension that was building up during the run up to Godhra. There was a small group trying to study for the afternoon paper in my room and we just brushed it aside. At least one person, however, noted that the way this was reported was pathetic. But who cares?

Four years down the line, we know better. Not only is there a distinct bias in reporting from the media, there is also a shameless denial of the whole incident by, who else, the establishment. I have no idea what might be going through the mind of those who survived the Godhra massacare.

This is the true face of Indian secularism, something which needs to be abhored and despised. If these folks have the audacity to brush off an incident that took place as recently as four years and the accounts of which can be narrated by survivors, imagine what they could have done to so much of history!!

This is in a way good for the BJP/hindutva hard liners since its gonna increase the resentment among the hindus against this establishment. The govt is digging its own grave by endorsing such idiotic reports.
